College of Life Sciences was founded at January 7th, 2005, being the youngest colleges in Henan Agricultural University. It has 105 faculties, including 28 professors, 20 associate professors, 5 visiting professors and 2 Chair professors. There are currently more than 1860 full-time students, including 191 doctoral students and graduate students, and 1669 undergraduates. The college is home to 1 National Biology Experiment and Teaching Demonstration Center. It has 2 provincial first-level disciplines in Biology, and Light Industry Technology and Engineering.

It confers doctoral degree in Agricultural Biotechnology, master's degrees in Biology and in Bioengineering, and undergraduate majors of Bioengineering, Biological Science and Biotechnology. The college offers 10 provincial-and university-quality courses, and 156 innovation experiments open to the University. It established 19 teaching exercitation bases, hosted 6 Central and Local Co-construction Laboratory Projects, and 34 national-, provincial- and university-level education projects.

The College is home to 3 provincial- and ministerial-level research platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbial Enzyme Engineering, Ministry of Agriculture. Innovation research platforms for Gene cloning, Proteomics, genetic transformation and Functional genomics are also under construction. The college has hosted 154 research grants including 25 National Science Foundation projects, 1 National High-tech project and 6 sub-projects, 6 sub-projects of National 973, funding increases to 15 millions Yuan form 1 million in 2005. It published 126 scientific publications in SCI journals and 967 papers in Chinese journals.

Department of Botany is responsible for teaching Botany, Plant Physiology and Cell Biology open to the University. It has 23 faculties including 6 professors, 6 associate professors. The department has hosted 18 national-, provincial- and ministerial research projects, with a funding of 3.8 million yuan. It obtained 15 provincial and university-level teaching awards, and 8 scientific and technological progress awards.
Department of Zoology undertakes Zoology-related courses for the University. The Master discipline of Zoology began enrolling students in 2007. It has 9 faculties including 1 professor, 4 associate professors. There are 3 stable research directions, including excavation and utilization of excellent genetic resources, pest control, animal diversity and resource conservation.

Department of Microbiology was founded in 1955. It is home for the Enzyme Engineering Research Center and Edible Fungus Technology Center. It has 23 faculty members including 9 professors, 5 associate professors. There are 4 research directions: Microbial enzymology, Environmental microbiology, Energy microbiology, Edible and medicinal mycology.
Department of Genetics and Cell Biology has 11 faculties including 5 professors and 2 lecturers. It is responsible for teaching of Genetics, Biostatistics, Molecular Genetics, and Cell Engineering. It began to enroll students in 2006. The department has hosted one 973 project, 3 National Natural Science funds, and several provincial and ministerial-level key projects.
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has 14 faculties including 5 professors, 2 associate professors and 3 lecturers. It is responsible for Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Molecular virology and Virology courses to the University. Of which Biochemistry was awarded as a provincial quality course. The department has won 2 second prizes for teaching achievements in Henan Province.
